Guest Greg Mayo shares the ways abortion wounds fatherhood, manhood, the heart and spirit of a man. He stresses the importance of affirming to men that their pain is real, it is not imaginary, and there is help available.
Greg identifies drifting after abortion as the passivity which may result from men having their agency removed as others make the decision to end a pregnancy without their input or will. The drifting may then permeate every area of his life.
He is an articulate voice on reclaiming authentic masculinity through a thorough exploration of his experience of losing a child to abortion when he was 18 years old. In this episode we discuss:
- How does abortion impact men?
- Why is abortion emasculating to every man regardless of his role in the experience?
- If abortion is primarily a woman’s decision, does abortion reflect cowardice or chivalry?
- What is the role of healthy shame in coming to terms with a past abortion and abortion wounds?
- How are churches re-wounding those already trapped in toxic shame after abortion?
- How does abortion-woundedness impact fatherhood?
Greg says, “As a man, your first job in this world is to protect your family, so when you’re a participant in abortion, you automatically feel like a failure.”
His recommended reading includes When Life Is Hard by James MacDonald.
