Overcoming common barriers to preaching on abortion

Host Kim Ketola discusses Identifying and overcoming the obstacles for clergy to help their church in preventing and repenting abortion.

Kim adds her experience and learning to ideas drawn from an excellent document prepared by the Respect Life Office of Saint Joseph’s Church in Kansas City titled The Most Common Reasons Pastors Give for Not Preaching on Abortion

  1. Personality or perception – Don’t want to be seen as a typical pro-lifer
  2. Don’t want to be seen as confrontational
  3. Don’t want to focus on a single issue
  4. It’s futile, you can’t stop people from having abortions
  5. Don’t want to be political or divisive
  6. Don’t want to offend women
  7. Don’t feel equipped–no training at seminary or elsewhere
  8. There is no good reason. I simply haven’t done it.
  9. Sensitivity to those already wounded by abortion

Please share your thoughts and if there are other reasons you’ve encountered.
