Radio/Podcast Moral injury

Host Kim Ketola discusses abortion through the framework of moral injury.

Thinking about the morality of abortion raises the questions:

  • How do we reconcile and recover from violating our own conscience?
  • What are the barriers to forgiveness after abortion?

1 Peter 1:7 The testing of our faith proves its genuineness, of greater worth than gold.

Luke 22:31 Jesus predicted Peter’s betrayal and Satan sifting him as wheat

Moral injury provides a helpful framework. It is similar but distinct from PTSD, often causing us to lose trust in ourselves, and our moral foundations, as well as losing trust in others.

Volunteers of America describes wounds to the conscience as The War Inside, “Moral Injury is the injury to a person’s moral conscience. The result of betraying your personal moral code can become profound internal suffering.”

The ultimate value of spiritual testing (even those tests we may fail) is to benefit the body of Christ.
